Are there exceptions when a counselor breaks confidence?

The ONLY circumstances which require reporting outside of the client-counselor is: is a court subpoenas, any reference to child abuse (see link below), when a client’s safety is in jeopardy, an intention to harm self; or when a client intends to harm someone else. How do you protect my confidential information that I give you?

During the time we work together I keep a hand written file which is kept in a secured (locked) cabinet at all times.  This file helps remember the detail and goal areas for the best treatment practice. Following our last session, the file would be securely disposed of following a 10 year period.
